Career is Core to the Employee Experience

Our thoughts on the launch of Microsoft Viva and how Paddle’s integrations work seamlessly with Microsoft Teams and LinkedIn Learning to bring you a complete employee engagement experience.

Today, Microsoft announced Viva, an Employee Experience platform built to help companies leap into the new world of hybrid working (and take on a $300B market). As Satya Nadella and Jared Spataro discussed during the launch, Microsoft defines the employee experience as four big buckets: collaboration, learning, well-being, and belonging. Broadly, we think that is on the right track.

The one aspect that is really missing is careers & growth: that learning is just one part of the career growth story. Learning is the how, not the why when it comes to employee growth and development.

If you ask employees what they think is the greatest barrier to a great employee experience, the answer is clear:

  • The lack of career growth is the top reason people leave a company (and has been for the past ten years)

  • The promise of career growth is the top reason people join a company

  • Career growth is often the lowest score on engagement surveys

Career growth dramatically impacts each of the four pillars outlined in Microsoft’s announcement:

  • Collaboration unlocks career opportunities, as people build their internal networks and leverage them for career growth

  • Learning prepares people for career moves, helping them upskill for a role they aspire to

  • Well-being is negatively impacted by career-related anxiety and uncertainty: i.e. will my skills be valuable here for the long-term?

  • Belonging is fostered when everyone has access to career progression

We are very excited about Microsoft’s announcement in this space. The lack of employee engagement holds back so many innovations in HR technology, and this is a big step towards bringing some of these technologies into the mainstream.

Paddle’s existing Microsoft Teams integration brings our AI-driven career paths and talent marketplace right into the Teams experience

Paddle is also doing our part to bring career growth to these critical channels created by Microsoft 365.

Paddle’s existing Microsoft Teams integration brings our AI-driven career paths and talent marketplace right into the Teams experience, and we will be looking for ways to double down as Viva rolls out to more of our customers.

We also already direct employees using Paddle to LinkedIn Learning content that aligns with their career goals and will be investigating how we can do that with Viva Learning in the near future.
